Connect a Bitbucket repository

Tracewell reads your code to investigate tickets. You sign in to Bitbucket Cloud once, then pick the repositories Tracewell may read, with read access only: Tracewell can’t push, open pull requests or change settings.

  • You’re an admin of your Tracewell workspace.
  • Connect with a Bitbucket user who can read the repositories.
  1. In Tracewell, open Settings → Connections. Under Connect repositories, select Bitbucket, then Continue to Bitbucket.
  2. Sign in to Bitbucket if it asks you to.
  3. Bitbucket shows what Tracewell asks for: read access to your account and your repositories. Click Grant access.
  4. Bitbucket sends you back to Tracewell, which lists the repositories your user can read in one of your workspaces. Choose another under Workspace if you need to. Select the repositories to connect and select Connect. Do this within an hour.

For repositories in another workspace, open the Bitbucket card, select Add repositories, and choose that workspace.

Tracewell checks that you can read each repository, and they show as connected.

Bitbucket has no permission for a single repository: the access you grant reads every repository your Bitbucket user can read. Tracewell only reads the repositories you picked.

To keep Tracewell’s access to those repositories, connect with a Bitbucket user who can only read them.

Bitbucket’s read access to repositories also lets an app use the repositories’ issue trackers and wikis. Tracewell doesn’t use them. Read access to your account is only used for your name and the list of your workspaces, while you pick repositories. Bitbucket also lists your email address; Tracewell never reads it.

Tracewell says What to do
The Bitbucket user who approved the connection can’t read … Ask the repository’s admin for read access, or connect with another user.
You can’t read any repository in … Choose another workspace, select Use another account, or ask for access in Bitbucket.
The Bitbucket sign-in expired, or was used already You took longer than an hour to pick the repositories. Connect Bitbucket again.

The messages every provider shows are in Manage connections.

Disconnecting a repository under Settings → Connections stops Tracewell reading it, but Bitbucket gives Tracewell no way to revoke its access. To revoke it:

  1. In Bitbucket, click the gear icon in the top right and choose Personal Bitbucket settings.
  2. Choose Connected apps.
  3. Find Tracewell and revoke its access.

Tracewell can then no longer read any of your repositories, and their cards show an error.
